Chick Corea is an American jazz pianist, keyboardist and composer, who has written many jazz standards. As a member of Miles Davis’ band in the 1960s, participated in the birth of the electric jazz fusion movement and took it to new heights in the 1970s when he formed Return to Forever, which introduced legends like Stanley Clarke, Flora Purim, Airto Moreira and Al Di Meola to the world. Gary Burton is an American jazz vibraphonist, who pioneered a pianistic style of four-mallet technique as an alternative to the usual two-mallets. This approach caused Burton to be heralded as an innovator and his sound and technique are widely imitated. He is also known for pioneering fusion jazz and popularizing the duet format in jazz, as well as being a major figure in jazz education.

In the 1970s Corea and Burton started working occasionally and recorded several duet albums on ECM, including 1972’s “Crystal Silence.” They reunited in 2006 for a concert tour. In 2008, they released “The New Crystal Silence” which received 3 Grammy nominations. The package includes a disc of duets and another disc featuring the Sydney Symphony.
