Tift Merritt is a triple-threat musician: a gifted singer, superb songwriter, and skillful guitarist. Her music, which has been compared to Joni Mitchell and Emmylou Harris, has been described as a mix of “sonic short stories and poignant performances.”

Her2002 debut album, “Bramble Rose,” landed on the year-end top 10 listsof Time magazine and The New Yorker and was called the best debut of the year in any genre by The Associated Press.

Her latest album, “See You On The Moon,” was released in June and My Morning Jacket frontman Yim Yames (Jim James) is featured on the track “Feel of the World.”

He has supported artists like Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris, Amos Lee, Josh Ritter, Patty Griffin, Mary Chapin Carpenter, David Gray, and Ray LaMontagne.

Merritt’s also a photographer; her first gallery exhibition, “Other Countries,” ran at The Mahler Gallery in Raleigh, North Carolina in May 2009. She also hosts an artist-to-artist interview radio show called The Spark with Tift Merritt which is produced by KRTS in Marfa, Texas, and whose guests have included Nick Hornby, Kiki Smith, Emmylou Harris, poet C. K. Williams and Merge Records and Superchunk co-founder Mac McCaughan.

“You wouldn’t necessarily know from Tift Merritt’s beautiful and aching folk-rock album ‘See You On The Moon’ that she was once nominated for a Grammy as a country singer, but Merritt is the type of disarming talent who can easily coax her way into any genre.” -NPR
