This Grammy-nominated keyboardist, composer, and record producer has been a fusion pioneer since creating the Jeff Lorber Fusion in the late 1970s.

When he went solo, he also was on the forefront of the smooth jazz genre.

Chances are, you’ve heard his music without realizing it. Many of his songs are featured on The Weather Channel’s Local On The 8s segments, and he has appeared on that channel’s compilation albums, The Weather Channel Presents: The Best of Smooth Jazz and The Weather Channel Presents: Smooth Jazz II.

  • His new recording, Now Is The Time, was just released and delves back into his early catalog and reinvents some of the most compelling compositions from the Jeff Lorber Fusion heyday.
  • Influenced by other jazz fusion practitioners like Herbie Hancock, Weather Report and Return to Forever, Lorber has also collaborated with Chick Corea.
  • “Rain Dance,” found on the 1979 album Water Sign, was sampled for the 1996 Lil’ Kim single “Crush On You.”
  • The Jeff Lorber Fusion’s 1980 LP Wizard Island introduced a young saxophonist named Kenny Gorelick, better known as Kenny G.

“His new recording Now Is The Time…delves back into his early catalog and reinvents some of the most compelling compositions from the Jeff Lorber Fusion heyday. As a result, the artist once again makes a bold statement in the evolution of jazz.”
