Singer/guitarist Dean Wareham is more influential than he is usually given credit for. Born in Wellington, New Zealand, Wareham and his parents relocated to New York City in 1977 before he moved to Boston to attend college.

He has been the driving force behind seminal indie bands like Galaxie 500, Luna and Dean and Britta (which he formed with his wife).

Along with performing onstage, Wareham wrote the highly acclaimed soundtrack for the critically acclaimed indie film, “The Squid And The Whale.”

The tour will feature him and Phillips playing his songs from Galaxie 500, a band considered a pioneer in the genre of “shoegazer.”

Wareham’s most recent project with Phillips is “13 Most Beautiful…Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests,” a project commissioned by the Andy Warhol Museum and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust that puts music to silent film portraits that Warhol shot at the Factory between 1964 and 1966.

“No one is currently offering Galaxie 500’s mélange of trebly guitar, serpentine basslines, fragile vocals and oddly jazz-inflected drumming. Certainly, no one currently sounds like singer Dean Wareham.” -The Guardian
