Ottmar Liebert & Luna Negra
Flamenco Jazz
Born in Cologne, Germany to a Chinese-German father and Hungarian mother, OTTMAR LIEBERT comes from a culturally rich musical background. At age 11 he began playing the guitar, and he traveled extensively through Europe and Asia with his parents, soaking up all of the traditions he could. Liebert pursued his passion in Germany, then moved to Boston, MA, and eventually settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
In 1989, Liebert founded the first incarnation of his band, Luna Negra. Their ground-breaking debut album Nouveau Flamenco, began as a self-produced local release called Marita: Shadows and Storms. The record was picked up by Higher Octave Music, where they released a fully remastered version.
Since then, Liebert has gone on to release twenty-five albums including live releases, Christmas compilations, and original music. He has received 38 Gold and Platinum certifications in the USA, and many others across the world.
Throughout the years, the Luna Negra band has had a revolving door of personnel, but the two constants remain Ottmar Liebert and bassist Jon Gagan.
