Jeff Chimenti and AJ Santella of The Dead, RatDog, and Furthur
Classic Rock
JEFF CHIMENTI is best known for his work as the keyboardist for the American rock band RatDog. The group primarily plays Grateful Dead tunes, and was originally started as a side project for Bob Weir and Rob Wasserman of the Grateful Dead. Chimenti is also a member of post-Grateful Dead bands The Dead and Furthur.
Chimenti is originally from the San Francisco Bay area, and he began playing piano at only four years old. Chimenti played in many local jazz bands as well as in Les Claypool’s Frog Brigade and backed up En Vogue. In 1997, Chimenti joined RatDog. In 2010, RatDog took a hiatus, and he has been playing with Furthur, which features Bob Weir and Phil Lesh.
AJ SANTELLA has been the stage manager for the Grateful Dead, Furthur, The Dead, and RatDog. In 2007, Santella helped Chimenti create a life-saving device for those suffering with sleep-apnea. They were inspired by Chimenti’s mother who suffered from the disorder. The device was created from a gel material that was originally used for dampening the vibration on drum heads, and is projected to sell over 1 million units this year.
