Dar Williams

Singer / Songwriter

DAR WILLIAMS has been a staple in the New England folk scene for over fifteen years. Since releasing her debut album in 1993, Williams has gone on to release seven studio records. Throughout her career, she has been best known for her unique writing style in which she employs a fictitious feel where she examines and illuminates the minute details of how people approach every day life.

Joan Baez recorded several of Williams’ songs early in her career, and this led her to a successful career. She made rounds on the coffee house circuit, toured with Baez, and eventually signed with Razor & Tie Entertainment, who she has remained with since.

In 1998, Williams joined Richard Shindell and Lucy Kaplansky to form the group Cry Cry Cry as a way to pay homage to their favorite folk artists. The released an album of covers and toured until 2000.

Following that, Williams has continued to record and release both studio and live recordings. Her songs range in theme from religion to adolescence, gender issues to anti-commercialism, and misunderstood relationships, loss, and humor. Her most recent release is a two-disc set that includes numerous collaborations with veteran “folkies” and some of her greatest hits.
