Avant
Neo Soul / R&B
Avant, best known for hits such as Separated, My First Love and Read Your Mind likens himself to a modern day soul singer like Luther Vandross, but cites R. Kelly as his main influence. A graduate of the Cleveland School of the Arts, he majored in theater, but always wanted to pursue a career in music. MCA Records released his first album My Thoughts in 2000. The single Separated topped the Billboard R&B charts and the video received massive play on BET and The Box.
Recorded in Chicago, the album features a cover of Rene & Angelas 1983 R&B classic My First Love. This album was followed up by Ecstasy in 2002 and Avant’s cameo appearance in the 2004 film Barber Shop 2.
His latest album “The Letter” was released in 2010 on his new label Verve Forecast. Avant describes the album as “a letter from me to my fans, to tell them what’s going on in my life, what’s going through my head, and my struggles as a man.”
