Gregorio Luke
Art expert Gregorio Luke brings to life the fascinating figures of Mexican and Latin American art and culture. Former Director of the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, he has presented over 1000 lectures at museums and universities around the world. He has also held the title of Consul of Cultural Affairs of Mexico and First Secretary of the Embassy of Mexico.
In 1995, Luke was honored with the Irving Leonard Award by the Hispanic Society of the Library of Congress. In 2005, The Ebell Club of Los Angeles honored him with a Life-time Achievement Award. In 2006, Luke received the El Angel Award by the Bilingual Foundation of the Arts and in 2007 he was recognized by CATE (California Association of Teacher’s in English) for promoting literacy in public schools.
In 2008 he received the Local Hero Award of KCET and the artist of year award from the Council of the Arts of Long Beach, CA
Lukes multimedia cultural presentations combine video, images and Lukes own rapturous lectures to create an exhilarating art experience. Lukes Frida Kahlo, A New Look provides insight into the enigmatic and adored Kahlos life. From her tumultuous relationship with her artist husband, Diego Rivera, to her fashion sense, Luke explores how Kahlos life is inextricably intertwined with her personal life.
This event will benefit the Castro Limon Foundation to help children with terminal cancer.

Gregorio Luke, considerado el artista del 2011 en la ciudad de Long Beach por su promocion a la cultura y arte mexicano, vendra a San Diego a presentar una serie de exposiciones multimedia sobre los grandes representantes de nuestro arte. Gregorio Luke tiene la virtud de despojar a los artistas de su cara mas conocida para analizarlos como mexicanos dentro del contexto social y artistico de la epoca, lo que nos permite tener un encuentro intimo con el personaje en cuestion. Apoyado de peliculas, imagenes de sus cuadros mas emblematicos, anecdotas personales y el fruto de una minuciosa investigacion, Gregorio Luke logra presentar mas de 500 imagenes en cada una de sus exposiciones, ofreciendo una vivencia unica. Arrancamos la serie con la enigmatica Frida Kahlo, y abre el paso a los muralistas. Parte de los recursos recaudados en estas exposiciones seran donados a la fundacion Castro Limon que da esperanza de vida a los ninos con cancer.
